The way of managing travel has started to change long before Covid-19, the trend simply has been accelerated now. Private travellers expect to buy tickets, hotels and excursions like they buy on Amazon or other big retail platforms. And they expect to cancel, change and return the travel products as easily.

Corporate companies and corporate travellers are also influenced by this retail experience. They expect from their TMC to be able to book every rate including NDC fares available online. The TMC work has changed from selling tickets, hotels and cars via one GDS platform towards manually aggregating fragmented content from multiple platforms and sources. Corporate customers do not only demand best fares, but also expect their chosen TMC to provide self-booking tool solutions for their employees to be able to book 24/7 and adjust company’s travel policies easily.

This trend of modern airline retailing experience based on NDC standard is here to stay. The most important airlines in the world have all committed to NDC standards, representing more than 60% of the IATA overall volume.

The most important travel related technology companies, including the three GDS have completed NDC certification. Hotels and car rentals were early adopters of this trend and have their own modern retailing platforms in place next to the GDS sales channel.
